A lot of airports have still strict policies when it comes to allowing animals and pets inside their premises. However, it's not the case with JFK airport because its animal terminal would bring good news to pet owners. Pets can now have the same luxurious experience as their owners.
Metro reported that the John F. Kennedy International Airport will open up an animal terminal this year that costs $65 million. With its 20,000 square foot luxury spa, travelers' pets can be pampered with massages, pedicures and enjoy a nice swim in dog-themed pools.
Pets can stay overnight in the $100-suite and can have a luxurious experience sleeping in human-sized beds while watching television. Pet owners can design the room with photos of their choice to provide their pets a homey experience. Clingy owners can also communicate with their pets using webcams.
Gensler, a San Francisco architecture and design firm, will be the one to make this animal terminal come to life. The 178,000 square-foot cargo terminal will be the location of project.
According to Travel + Leisure, the animal terminal will also be catering livestocks and other exotic animals. For example, horses would be able to stay in stable-like facilities for quarantine. Walking tracks are also available to let these horses do a little bit of exercise.
Other ammenities also include private areas for penguins, 24-hour veterinary clinic, equine shower and the Cat Adventure Jungle for your feline friends. Accommodations, most especially cats and dogs would range to $100 a night. Overall, The Ark is divided into three areas, the Pet Oasis, Aviary In-Transit Quarantine and the Equine & Livestock Export Center.
Pet travel has become a trend these days and most travel companies are targeting rich animal lovers. The JFK airport welcomes about 70,000 animals every year and it will continue to increase once the The Ark opens up.
