A Russian bunker turned museum turned end-of-the-world-party-location will celebrate doomsday as well as provide solace if an armageddon actually does occur on Friday, Dec. 21 as interpreted by the Mayan "Long Count" calendar. The Russian bunker was built in 1956 and became a museum in 2006. Now the nuclear protective Bunker 42 is hosting an end of the world party for £600 which is about $1,000. The party starts late on Dec. 20 and lasts until the day after the end of the world on Dec. 22, reports The Telegraph.
Museum guide Alexei Pavlovsky said that the idea for the end of the world party came from museum visitors. "The idea is pretty simple, many people would feel much calmer if they could spend this critical day being surrounded with maximum comfort and safety." He said to The Telegraph, "And who are we to say no when we have 56 meters of ground above us and a well 100 meters below us, there's also a pumping system and ventilation.
The historic bunker was built in the Cold War-era and was designed to save Soviet leaders from nuclear attacks, reported The Daily Mail. The bunker is located in Moscow near the Kremlin and is 184 ft underground. When visitors enter the bunker they take an elevator 18 floors down to where the party will be hosted.
'We don't have control over things such as the end of the world. But we are ready for pretty much everything,' Pavlovsky said to The Daily Mail. "There'll be a children's room with cartoons, for adults there'll be movies, talks dedicated to the end of the world and tours of the museum. There'll be live broadcasts from other bunkers in other countries."
Other Russians however, aren't planning on attending a fancy underground party to ring in the end of the world. The Daily Mail reported that many people have been purchasing goods such as torches, matches, thermos, flasks and kerosene lamps in case an armageddon does occur.
