The highest suspension bridge in Europe has opened in Engelberg, Switzerland. The area is a popular destination for skiirs and the 100-meter long Titlis Cliff Walk is built along Mount Titlis. CNN reported that it was built in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Engelberg-Gerschnialp cableway.
Ursula Beamish who is a spokeswoman for Switzerland Tourism, said to NBC News, "It's going to be really big next summer as a high-adrenaline kind of new adventure in Switzerland."
The suspension bridge is about 3000 meters above sea level and the outstanding view goes as far as 500 meters down.
Peter Reinle, spokesman for Titlis Engelberg resort said to CNN, "It is 100 percent safe and impossible to fall from the bridge."
Getting to the bridge itself is a journey and passes through an underground tunnel. Yahoo News reported that the bridge took five months to build. CNN reported that it costed U.S. $1.6 million to build or 1.5 million Swiss Francs.
Reinle said that there have been around 500 people that have crossed the bridge since it opened on Friday and that "most of the visitors had been impressed."
He added according to Yahoo News, "It opened in a real snow storm which made it an adventure for everyone who crossed it."
Mount Titlis is located in the Urner Alps of Switzerland and located on the border between Obwalden and Berne in Switzerland. It is already famous for its revolving cable car, which is the world's first. The cablecar connects Engelberg to the summit of the mountain. The last part of the cable car goes above the glacier and its possible to see an illuminated glacier cave from the entrance within the cable car station.
