A man was recently arrested after he said he threatened to "kill as many people as he could" at a school. This comes right after the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting which left 26 people dead, including 20 children. The Associated Press reported that Von I. Meyer, 60. from Northern Indiana said the threat to his wife during an argument, but Police Chief Jerry Smith from Cedar Lake, Indiana believes that it was just a bluff.
The AP reported that Meyer was arguing on Friday morning with his wife and threatened to first set her on fire when she was sleeping at their home. The AP reported he said he would kill her "at the school" and "would kill as many people as he could before police could stop him police."
Police found 47 guns and ammunition in Meyer's home after he was arrested, however many of those guns were antique collector's items.
Meyer's wife who works at the cafeteria at Jane Ball Elementary School stayed home from work on Friday and police were at the elementary school and three other nearby schools as a precaution. Smith added to the AP, "We just didn't want to take any chances."
Smith told the AP he believes the threat to be a bluff. "If people followed through on all the threats they've ever made - things said in anger that they don't really mean and regret - our population in this country would be half of what it is," he said. "This was something he said in the heat of an argument. He hadn't been plotting this."
Meyer who left his house on Friday after his wife reported him to the police, returned on Saturday and was arrested at the home with charges of "felony intimidation, resisting law enforcement and domestic battery charges," reported The AP.
