Nancy Lanza: Adam Lanza's Mother and Victim of the Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting in Connecticut Took Children Target Shooting

Adam Lanza killed his mother Nancy Lanza before entering Sandy Hook Elementary and killing 26 people, 20 of them being young children and then taking his own life. The New York Times reported that Adam ,20, first shot his mother, Nancy, 52, and then drove her car to the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school.

The New York Times reported that Adam's classmates said that they believed he had Aspergers syndrome or another disorder. Adam lived with his mother after his parents divorced. Though many media sources claimed that Nancy worked at the school, the school superintendant stated there was no evidence that Nancy had ever worked at the school, reported The New York Times.

Nancy Lanza's ex sister in law, Marsha Lanza said to ABC News that Nancy was a "awesome ... giving person." She also said to WLS in Chicago that Nancy had at one time been an aid at Sandy Hook.

Marsha also mentioned that Adam had been home-schooled after pulling him out of the Newtown public school system. Media reports also say that Nancyhad purchased guns. ABC News reported that Nancy had five weapons registered under her name including a Glock, a Bushmaster and a Sig Sauer.

Dan Holmes who knew Nancy from a bar that she would hang out at, said to The New York Times "She had several different guns," he said. "I don't know how many. She would go target shooting with her kids."

An update from NBC News reports that Adam Lanza had an argument with four of the staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School the day before he went in and conducted the tragic mass shooting. Three of the four staff members he had the altercation with, were killed. The fourth was absent from school that day and is being questioned by authorities. NBC News also reported that Lanza tried to buy a rifle earlier in the week but was rejected because of state laws that have a mandatory waiting period.
