Taylor Swift Dead? Country Singer is Victim of Twitter Death Hoax

Taylor Swift is dead. At least that's what Twitter is saying. However the country singer didn't die. She's just the victim of another Twitter death hoax.

On Thursday, a tweet started going around saying that Swift died. The account @NevvsMtv said "R.I.P. Taylor Swift. The popstar was found dead in her house some hours ago. Read more: https://tinyurl.com/cyo3lt"

The account looks just like the real MTV News Twitter account, but it is obvious that the account is fake as they use two 'v's to spell the 'w' in news. Also, the link leads to a page talking about makeup fails, which has nothing to do with Swift dying.

The same account posted the same hoax about rapper Drake dying within the past few weeks.

Taylor Swift is alive and well. She's been promoting her new album "Red," debuting a new music video for "I Knew You Were Trouble," and she is rumored to be dating One Direction's Harry Styles as the two have been seen together often lately.

The hoax could have bene started by loyal One Direction fans who are upset over Swift dating the heartthrob. She has received death threats over her dating him.

Some are falling for the hoax and have taken to Twitter to mourn and question the loss. Some examples of tweets include:

"Taylor Swift dead ??? "

"I just saw that taylor swift had died #wtf"

"R.I.P Taylor Swift (⌣́_⌣̀)"

This isn't the first time that Swift has been the target of a social media death hoax. Twitter has been trying to kill her off for several months.

Death hoaxes have been sweeping the internet in 2012.

Some other celebrities who became victims of a death hoax in recent months include actor Denzel Washington, actor Jim Carrey, TV host Jerry Springer, musician Skrillex, Rapper Lil Wayne, Actor Vince Vaughn, Tom Kenny, the voice behind SpongeBob Squarepants, country singer Taylor Swift, legendary actor Morgan Freeman, Comedian Bill Cosby, Alfonso Ribeiro aka Carlton from the Fresh Prince, and Bill Nye the Science Guy have all been victims of death hoaxes within the past few weeks. All of these celebrities are just fine.
