At the end of the midseason premiere of "The Walking Dead," Rick Grimes was seen smiling while being surrounded by a new armed group. The reason for this is that this new group could be the answer that Grimes and his team are looking to combat the Saviors.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, when Grimes and his group was declined by King Ezekiel to join them in a war against the Saviors, they decided to look for Father Gabriel, who went out with a ton of food and supplies. While searching for him, they encountered an armed group that completely surrounded them.
The report said that showrunner Scott M. Gimple said that Grimes' smile has a lot to do with the next episode of "The Walking Dead," which is entitled "New Best Friend." Gimple said that Grimes and his group don't see this new community as a threat, but as "an answer."
"It's an interesting story and we don't leave the audience on pins and needles about it and we go right into what that smile means in the next episode," he said. "There's tough stuff in the next episode but there's straight up fun and attempts are made at humor from the situation that these characters get in."
Screen Rant shared an inside look at the new community and they said it looks like Grimes may have stumbled upon a gold mine, provided that group is looking for new communities to ally with. The junkyard that the group is based in looks well-fortified and seemingly "obscure enough" that no one from the core survivors has stumbled upon them until now.
The report adds the next episode will probably tell more about this new group. It's also likely that the mysterious boots that were seen looking around in the midseason finale belong to a member of this group.
