'Pokémon GO' Plus VS Apple Watch: Which 'Pokémon GO' Accessory Is The Better Buy?

Despite having its hype reduced dramatically, "Pokémon GO" is still one of the highest trending mobile game on both the Android and iOS platform. For dedicated players, the release of the second gen warrants additional effort in catching all species and both the "Pokémon GO" Plus and Apple Watch could be considered essential. The question lies with which device is worth getting.

According to a recent post from TechRadar, both the Apple Watch with the "Pokémon GO" app installed and the "Pokémon GO" Plus accessory are currently the best options in helping players catch, collect and generally play the game "Pokémom GO" more conveniently.

In the video posted, the folks at TechRadar, points out the key features as well as the weaknesses of both accessories. The Pokémon GO Plus device is a nice piece of equipment in aiding players into catching pokémon, though there are some serious limitations with it. For one, it obviously cannot show which pokémon will be captured.

Another shortcoming is its absence of the ability to catch new and undiscovered species. The "Pokémon GO" Plus device can only catch those that are already in the players PokéDex and does it with underwhelming accuracy due to the lack of options of which Pokéball to use.

Even with these slight problems, the "Pokémon GO" Plus accessory is still a good game enhancer as it still allows players to spin Pokéstops and even collect items. The absence of a screen might be overlooked since several reports from users state that it is faster than the Apple Watch app.

Despite the disadvantages of the "Pokémon GO" Plus accessory, the Apple Watch with the latest "Pokémon GO" app isn't exactly an entirely better solution. While it does a great job of trying to replicate the actual in-game experience with the iOS and Android version, it lacks the ability to actually let the player catch anything.

The only function, the Apple Watch "Pokémon GO" app can do is let the players see which pokémon is around, flip pokéstops and collect items. It could have been the perfect accessory if not only for it's one very important lacking feature; catching pokémon.

It might be a laughable to some that a device, which has the ability to display technically a smaller version of what we can see on a smartphone display, won't have the ability to integrate such feature as swiping a pokéball or let alone, mimic the same feature of the "Pokémon GO" Plus and only requires a button press. This is the one feature that makes the app less desirable as it still requires players to pull out their smartphones from their pockets, which is sort of a nuisance.

As for the price, the Apple Watch is significantly more expensive than the "Pokémon GO" Plus accessory priced more than $300, but it does other things besides being a mobile game accessory. If you have this already, it wouldn't hurt trying out the "Pokémon GO" app as it is free. Otherwise, those looking for an affordable and reasonably priced "Pokémon GO" accessory can lean on the "Pokémon GO" Plus, which is just $35.
