A southwestern Michigan casino is hoping that 12-12-12 will be a lucky day to open its new hotel. The FireKeepers Casino near Battle Creak will open its new hotel on the special date at 12:12: p.m.
The FireKeepers Casino opened in 2009, but in order to get people to extend their stay, the casino has created an eight-story, 242-room hotel in Calhoun County's Emmett Township. The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Indians who own the casino believe that 12-12-12 will be an appropriate day to open the hotel and they'll be holding the ribbon cutting ceremony at 12:12 p.m.
"When we first opened, we were really a locally focused casino," Jeff LaFrance, director of marketing events for FireKeepers told M Live. "Adding the hotel allows us to have a broader reach and make this a destination."
The brand new hotel, which started taking reservations earlier this year, includes an indoor pool, exercise facility, full service restaurant and a business center.
The 242-room hotel has 107 standard room that have king-size beds and 110 Classic Rooms with two queen-size beds. Each room has a 42-inch flatscreen TV and a walk-in shower. The rooms start at $159 per night Sunday through Thursday and $199 per night on Friday and Saturday.
In addition to the standard rooms, there are 23 single-bedroom suites which come with a king-size bed and a kitchenette. Some even have their own fireplace. These suites start at $259 during the week and $299 on Fridays and Saturdays.
The most luxurious rooms are the two Presidential suites on the 7th and 8th floor. They each have a kitchen, two bathrooms, a baby grand piano, a conference/dining table that seats eight, and two sitting areas. They start at $750 a night during the week and $1,000 a night on Friday and Saturday.
"It's exciting to have something new come to the area," said Kathy George, general manager of the hotel. "It's great for employees. It's great for the community at large. ... "We're going to bring more visitors into Southwest Michigan - gaming clientele, conventions and meetings. We're just exposing more people to the great area that we're in."
In addition to the hotel, the casino is opening the new Smoke 'N Fire Restaurant, an events center, and a new smoke-free gaming section at the casino with 200 slot machines.
