Julian Lennon, the son of Beatles legend John Lennon, displayed a new art collection of his photographs at the Art Basel festival in Miami, Florida to raise money for his charity.
For the second time, Lennon exhibited his art in Miami. He is selling about a dozen photographs from his collection called "Alone," AFP reports.
He sold the prints starting at $3,500 and up to $5,500. While they may seem high, the prices are relatively low for at Art Basel Miami Beach show. The show ran from December 6-9.
"I've been a philanthropist for all my life, and ... I've had many involvements in humanitarian and environmental issues," Lennon, 49, told AFP. Lennon runs the charity called the White Feather Foundation. The charity focuses on environmental and humanitarian issues.
"Whatever work I do, I've always put at least ten percent aside (for) my foundation," he told AFP
"What we're trying to do here, and that's why I'm so happy to be part of this, is we're trying to make everybody else see that. Because there is a lot of money, obviously. And the idea is to put it back in schools," Lennon said.
Lennon is John Lennon's oldest son. His mother is Lennon's first wife, Cynthia Powell. His parents divorced when he was five. Julian was not planned, but he served as the inspiration for much of Lennon's music. He inspired the songs "Lucy in the Sky with Diamons," "Hey Jude," and "Good Night."
Julian also drew inspiration from his father for his artwork.
"What his work has shown many people is that you can actually be an individual in this world, and you don't have to be a sheep. And you can achieve things," Lennon told AFP.
In addition to displaying artwork, Julian has also composed his own music to raise money for his foundation.
"Music's been with me from the get-go," he told Metro U.K. "It was always around me as a kid. Dad got me my first guitar when I was 11 and, at school, if you wanted to be cool you had to be in a band ... Now, for me, it's about the creativity of songwriting."
However his music career has been inconsistent and he has put much of his focus into his artwork. Julian previously held a photo exhibit in 2009 for his collection "Timeless."
