Google's new maps app has already had its fare share of complains, but now the app has been called dangerous.
In Australia, police have warned drives to be careful using Apple Maps because the App has put the city of Mildura more than 40 miles away from its actual location. CNN reported that police called it a "potentially life-threatening issue." They noted that the maps app lists Mildura as being in the middle of Murray-Sunset Park and that some drivers have had to be rescued because of Apple's map issues.
"Anyone travelling to Mildura or other locations within Victoria should rely on other forms of mapping until this matter is rectified," police said in a statement according to The Los Angeles Times.
The police in Mildura have contacted apple to fix the issue and they have warned travelers to not rely on Apple Maps. An Apple spokesman, Adam Howoth said to CNN that Apple is "working hard to fix Maps."
When Apple released their new iOS 6 software platform in September, they replaced Google Maps with the new Apple Maps system which has gotten wide critcism.
The LA Times reported, "The software has been plagued with issues stemming from inaccurate locations and directions to low-quality 3-D renderings."
Tim Cook has even apologized for Maps after it was released. He wrote in a letter posted on Apple's wesbite, "We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better."
CNN reported that Scott Forstall, who was a Senior Executive was overseeing Apple's mobile software unit before he left the compay in October. The Wall Street Journal reported that Forstall left the company in October, and may have been forced out after refusing to apologize for Apple Maps.
