Believe it or not, gas prices faced a crash and have actually dropped significantly over the past few months.
According to CNN, which cited a survey, gas prices dropped 46 cents a gallon over the past two months.
"This has been a true price crash," Trilby Lundberg, publisher of the Lundberg Survey told CNN.
The average gas price dropped by 10 cents in the past three weeks alone, making the average gas price $3.38 per gallon
"This crash began back when refining problems around the country were being fixed, one after the other, at the same time that our seasonal gasoline demand was shrinking," she told CNN.
The price of crude oil also dropped after a steady increase.
It is expected that gas prices will go down even more, just in time for the holiday travel season and refiners should cut their prices for gas retailers.
While the prices may have reached a low, they're still higher than in previous years. During the same time last year, the average gas price was eight cents lower than in 2012.
The Lundberg Survey took gas prices from all over the country to determine the average. The city with the highest average was Long Island, New York with gas at $3.85 per gallon. The lowest gas price average was in Memphis, Tennessee with an average of $3.04.
The average gas prices varied across the country. Boston had $3.59 per gallon while Baltimore was at $3.34. Prices were even lower down South as Atlanta's average was $3.27 and Baton Rouge, Louisiana had an average of $3.11 per gallon. On the West Coast, Los Angeles had an average of $3.68 per gallon.
