A man in Florida was charged with child neglect after he left his baby with his pit bull. CBS reported that 41-year-old James Irvine decided to leave his 10-month-old infant in the care of a pit bull so he could go to a bar.
The Daytona Beach News Journal reports that the mother , whose name has not been released, of the 10-month-old baby called the police after she learned that the father left the baby alone at home with the dog so he could go to a bar. She was at work when the incident occurred. CBS News reported that the mother tried to contact Irvine several times before 11 p.m. on Friday night and when he finally picked up he reportedly said, "I'm watching the game," before hanging up on her.
Irvine reportedly admitted to the mother of his child, who is also his girlfriend, that he went to have a few drinks but that he had not left the baby alone because the "pit bull was watching the baby."
The Huffington Post reports that the mother came home to find Irvine urinating on himself and trying to get into the house through the garage door. The Daytona Beach News Journal reported that the mother found the child in a room crying with the door shut and the pit bull sitting outside the room.
After the mother contacted police, Irvine was arrested at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, reports The Huffington Post.
"Deputies said Irvine told them he had been home all Friday evening. A bartender at a local bar, however, told investigators that she saw Irvine at around 9:30 that night, the sheriff's report states. She also noted that he did not pay his tab," reported The Huffington Post
NBC Miami reported that a bar employee said that she had served Irvine six drinks--one Bud Light and five Coronas at the bar that night.
Irvine was released on $1,500 bail and charged with one count of child neglect.
