Canadian Tourist Group Gets $30,000 Compensation After Rowdy Spring Break Students Ruined Their Trip

Spring Break isn't fun for everyone. A group of Canadian travelers received a $30,000 payout after they claimed that their vacation was ruined by drunk and outrageous students.

The tourists which included 19 people said their travel agency set them up at a Mexican resort where 350 young people happened to be on their spring break. The tourists were outraged by the disgusting behavior displayed by the students which included urinating off the balconies and littering the resort, the Daily Mail reports.

The tourist group complained about the behavior but no improvements were made for the duration of the trip. Only six students were thrown own of the hotel and the chaos continued.

Five Quebec customers filed separate claims against the Toronto travel agency, Sunwing Vacations. They're seeking refunds for the cost of the trip and $500 per person for moral damages. Sunwing Vacations was forced to pay up and refund the travelers as ordered by a Montreal court.

When the group arrived at the Club Grand Coco Bay hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico, in March 2009 they were expecting a pleasant springtime getaway. They were not expecting busloads of students to show up and ruin their stay.

The guests were shocked by the behavior of the students. They completely occupied the resort and were highly intoxicated. They left broken glass by the pool and the hotel was forced to close the Jacuzzi because of contaminated water, likely from students engaging in sexual behavior.

"The entire hotel was disrupted by shouts and noise that lasted all night,' the judge's decision from the Monteral court read, according to the Daily Mail." Some customers had to deal with students on upper floors who urinated on their balconies. One of the hotel representatives even admitted to have "completely lost control of hotel security."

Sunwing Vacations tried to fight back, saying that they shouldn't have to pay for the group's flight since there were no complaints about the trip to the resort, the judge ordered them to cover the entire trip.
