Jim Carrey is dead. At least that's the rumor going around based on a fake report. However the comedic actor didn't die. He's just the victim of an internet death hoax that won't go away.
Global Associated News, which is notorious for starting false celebrity death rumors, says "Actor Jim Carrey is reported to have died shortly after a snowboard accident earlier today - December 7, 2012. "
The site claims that Carrey died in a snowboarding incident at the Zermatt ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland.
"Witnesses indicate that Jim Carrey lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed," the report reads. "Jim Carrey was air lifted by ski patrol teams to a local hospital, however, it is believed that the actor died instantly from the impact of the crash. The actor was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played any part in his death."
Since there are so many details to the accident, its easy to believe that its real, but Global Associated News creates fake news reports.
A message at the bottom of the site reads: "FAKE... THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE! this is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes!"
Those who are looking for more proof of his death may have come across the Necropedia page that says:
"Jim Carrey, born on January 17, 1962 in Newmarket, was a Canadian actor and comedian. He died on December 8, 2012 at the age of 50.The news has left the world shocked and saddened.Jim Carrey was romantically involved with Jenny McCarthy."
December 8 hasn't happened yet. Necropedia shows an "anticipated obituary," which is "an obituary written BEFORE the death of a person. It is common for news agencies to keep pre-written obituary for public figures, famous and high-profile people who are still alive."
Carrey is not dead. He's currently filming the sequel, "Kick-Ass 2" and he graces the cover of Vanity Fair's January issue.
Pranksters have been trying to kill off Carrey for several months. This snowboarding death rumor was going around a few weeks ago In October, there were rumors going around saying that he died in a plane crash.
A Facebook page was created called "R.I.P. Jim Carrey," when the plane crash death hoax was going around. The page has over 750 Likes.
Those on Twitter are starting to believe the rumor as more and more people discuss it and question whether or not it's really true.Examples of some Tweets include:
"jim carrey died yesterday. The grinch is dead. I'm in shock"
"Jim Carrey dead?... Now who will make me laugh :( R.I.P"
"RIP Jim Carrey. You were amazing!!!"
"Can someone confirm... I have just been told that Jim Carrey died in a snowboard accident in Switzerland"
Carrey isn't the only star to die in a snowboarding accident in Zermatt, Switzerland. Adam Sandler reportedly died in the same exact way earlier this week. Actor Eddie Murphy had the same exact cause of death in yet another death hoax, multiple times.
