In a quarterly earnings conference call this Tuesday, Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger has revealed the opening date of the "Pandora" - the "Avatar" themed park. The opening is on May 27, 2017, and the park is located in Disney's Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida.
During the end of May and beginning of June, Florida resident tickets for Animal Kingdom were completely sold out, leading many to believe that Avatar theme park would open then. A big media event is planned for the last week of May.
"'Pandora - The World of Avatar' is a themed area currently being constructed in the south-west portion of Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, Florida, near Orlando", according to Wikipedia. The area is based on the fictional moon, Pandora from the film Avatar, and will include Pandora's alien wildlife, floating mountains and bioluminescent plants. The park is expected to measure 4.9 hectares and feature several attractions, like entertainment, 3-D holograms, audio-animatronics, retail, and food and beverage outlets.
"This new land will transport guests to the visually magical world of Pandora. Guests will wonder at floating mountains and bioluminescent plants, and can join the Na'vi on two tours that take adventure to the next level", reports Travel + Leisure. There will be a Na'vi River Journey through a bioluminescent rainforest. On the Avatar Flight of Passage flight, they can fly over the jungle on a Mountain Banshee for a bird's eye view of Pandora.
Iger also announced the opening of the "Star Wars" theme park. Fans have been wondering since Disney announced the project in August 2015 when those lands would debut, according to Theme Park Insider. Iger today said that the Star Wars lands will open sometime in 2019.
