‘Blind Date’: Dating Show Returns On Television With Olly Murs As Host

The forerunner of dating shows, "Blind Date" that started in 1985 presented by Cilla Black on ITV is staging a comeback. This time, Olly Murs is being eyed as the presenter. The reality show is done with contestants picking a stranger to go on a holiday with and then tell their experiences on the show. The show went off the air in 2003.

Channel 5 is set to bring back the dating show. There are presenters already being considered as reported - Vicky Pattison, Helen Flanagan, and Georgia May Foote.

"Blind Date" used to be part of the audience's Saturday night watches in the 1980s and 1990s. Viewers reach 18 million every weekend. The amazing host, Cilla Black can no longer give the needed tips to the next presenter as she has already died in 2015 at the age of 72.

BBC reported that the reboot will follow the same well-loved format as the original show. The contestants pick the match of their choice blindly as they are separated by a screen. Then the contestants ask anything to help them choose the one they will have a vacation with. The expenses are all paid up by the show.

After making a choice, the two rejected hopeful will be paraded before them before the "chosen one" is revealed. As expected, it did not work out well for most of the couples. Then the happenings in the holiday will be revealed on the following episode. So far, the show that lasted for almost 18 years produced only three marriages.

The returning show will no longer air on ITV. It will be co-produced by BBC One's "The Graham Norton Show" creator So Television. Graham Skidmore's return is not yet confirmed by Channel 5.

There are stars who are famous today came from the show. The Sun reported that Amanda Holden, "Britain's Got Talent" judge appeared on the show when she was 19. Reality star Nikki Grahame did make a match but they did not last. She found her perfect man in another reality show, "Big Brother" where she met the winner of the season, Pete.

Scottish broadcaster Jenni Falconer was matched too but they did not end up having a relationship. Comedian Ed Byrnes also appeared on the show but did not get the chance to date. Stay tuned for updates on "Blind Date."
