One man on a JetBlue flight was arrested because he really wanted his mommy. When the New Jersey man wasn't able to sit next to his mother, he punched the plane's window.
Robert Ramirez of Hackensack, NJ was on a flight that was departing from Orlando International Airport on Nov. 2 when the incident occurred. Shortly after pulling away from the gate, Ramirez punched the plane window after he learned that he couldn't sit next to the window, the Daily Mail reports.
The flight crew tried to get Ramirez to calm down and sit down, but he punched the window, and broke it as it detached from the aircraft. The incident caused the flight to be delayed for an hour as the crew had to replace the window.
Ramirez was indicted by a federal grand jury on the charge of destruction of an aircraft.
While rare, this isn't the first time someone has punched the window out of a plane. Ryan Marchione of Florida was arrested at Tampa International Airport in 2004 for the destruction of a plane during a flight from Las Vegas, Nevada.
The punch 'basically exposed the exterior of the aircraft,' Assistant U.S. Attorney Ernest Peluso said during a Thursday detention hearing, according to the Daily Mail.
Marchione was sleeping and he suddenly woke up and turned to a passenger sitting near him and acted as if he was going to punch the passenger with a clenched fist. Instead, he turned and punched the window instead.
'Perhaps it was some sort of a psychotic episode as a result of drug abuse,' his attorney said, according to the Daily Mail.
