Most Overpaid Actor: Eddie Murphy Tops the 2012 Forbes List

Who is the most overpaid actor? Eddie Murphy, Forbes magazine says. Murphy earns plenty of money for movies that turn out to be flops, making him the most overpaid actor once again.

Eddie Murphy has had some hits during his career such as Beverly Hills Cop, Shrek and Dr. Dolittle, which made him a high demand actor but his recent films have bombed at the box office. Imagine That, A Thousand Words and Meet Dave didn't do too well this year. His film Tower Heist was supposed to be a boost for his career but the $75 million budget film only took in $153 million. Being that a movie needs to make twice its budget to make any profit, this too was a flop.

Since Murphy makes a lot of money for movies that don't do so well, Forbes considers him to be the most overpaid actor. The movies that he stars in only make an estimed $2.30 for every dollar that he's paid.

The second most overpaid actress is Katherine Heigl. She boosted her career with Knocked Up, 27 Dresses and The Ugly Truth, but her recent films haven't been as successful. One For The Money only eanred $37 million for a $40 million budget. Forbes estimates that for every dollar she earned for her last three movies, they only earned $3.40 on average.

Third on the list is Reese Witherspoon whose last three movies earned an average of $3.90 for every dollar she was paid. She is a popular actress but her last three movies may not have been the best choices. Her 2010 film How Do You Know had a star studded cast and a huge $120 million budget, but it only made $49 million at the box office. Her latest film This Means War did pretty well as it earned $157 million on a $65 million budget, but it wasn't enough to make up for the other flops.

The fourth choice may come as a surprise. Sandra Bullock's movies have a $5 return for every dollar she makes. Coming in fifth is Jack Black whose movies earn $5.20 per dollar paid.
