Marvin Gaye's biopic will be filmed in 2013 and now his son Marvin Gaye III and other family members are having issues with singer, Lenny Kravitz playing the role. PerezHilton.com reported that the family is doing everything they can to stop the production.
PerezHilton reported that Gaye's son to sources, "The producers and directors of this film are very wrong and shameful... [They're] trying to do a film about a low period in his life. They don't even know the whole story. I would hope [Lenny] doesn't have any idea that we are against this film being done."
It's not just that the family is against Kravitz playing the role as Marvin Gaye, but also that they don't want it to be produced at all.
TMZ reported that Gaye III wants to ask Kravitz, why he would do this." Gaye and Kravitz were classmates growing up as well as friends, "I would hope [Lenny] doesn't have any idea that we are against this film being done," Gaye III said to TMZ.
The film is reportedly about Gaye's life in the 1980s and will be directed by Julien Temple. As Gaye's family stated about the low period of his life it would include his issues with depression, drug abuse and alcoholism before his tragic death. In 1984, Gaye was shot by his father after an argument. His father pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter and had to serve five years on probation.
Gaye is a music legend and his famous hits include songs such as, "Let's Get it On," Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing," "I heard it Through the Grapevine," and What's Going on." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 after his death.
