Kate Middleton, who has been hospitalized with Hyperemesis Gravidarum was, which is basically a severe form of morning sickness, has also canceled three upcoming appearances because of her condition.
MedlinePlus states that the causes of hyperemesis gravidarum is thought to be because of fast rising blood levels of the hormone called HCG which is released by the placenta.
A St. James Palace rep said to US Weekly that Middleton, 30, will cancel her appearance at the ICAP Charity Day in London on December 5, the Winter Whites Gala in aid of Centerpoint on December 8 and the British Military Tournament at Earl's Court in London on December 9.
A statement from St. James Palace says,"As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter."
US Weekly reported that Hypermesis Gravidarum only affects 0.03 to 0.1 percent of expectant mothers. Some symptoms include, weight loss, vomiting, lightheadedness and fainting.
Dr. Ashley Roman a professor and OB/GYN at New York University Langone Medical Center said to ABC News, "It's traditional thought that nausea and vomiting is a sign of a healthy pregnancy. Hyperemesis gravidarum in and of itself does not increase a risk of pregnancy loss, but it can be associated with multiple pregnancy problems like multiple gestations or molar gestations."
Middleton and Prince William married in April 2011. US Weekly reported that a royal source said, "Trying for a baby has been their priority. They're both excited to be focusing on a new chapter in their lives."
US Weekly reported St. James Palace said in a statement that, "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news."
