Drake is dead. At least that's what Twitter is saying. However the rapper didn't die. He's just the victim of a social media death hoax. Drake is fine.
On Monday, a tweet started making its way around Twitter from what many believed was MTV News.
"@NevvsMtv: R.I.P. Drake. The rapper has been found dead in his house some hours ago. Read more: https://migre.me/cch63 ."
The account looks just like the real MTV News Twitter account, but it is obvious that the account is fake as they use two 'v's to spell the 'w' in news. Also, the link leads to a Sharecare advertisement, which clearly has nothing to do with Drake dying.
Drake joined Justin Bieber on stage on Sunday night during Bieber's concert in Toronto. He performed "Right Here" and "The Motto with Bieber. He was alive and well.
However, those who see the message retweeted by their friends on Twitter are starting to think that the rumor of his death might be true. Many are starting to question and mourn the death of the "The Motto."
Some tweets include:
"Drake is dead?"
"I've jus read a tweet from #mtv that @Drake has died... My stomach turned n I actually began to cry.... #bestbealie #heartbroken"
"RIP Drake.. #Yolo. 3"
Drake must have been lying when he said "You Only Live Once." He has had several lives according to the internet. This isn't the first time he's been killed off by social media. He reportedly "died" in February and June of this year. In one of the hoaxes, he died in a car crash.
Drake isn't dead but his grandmother did pass away recently.
"Rest in peace to my grandmother Evelyn Sher. What a day to go...thankful to have had the times we did," Drake wrote on Twitter on Nov. 22.
Drake isn't the only celebrity to be killed off by the internet. Celebrity death hoaxes have become a trend this year.
Some other celebrities who became victims of a death hoax in recent months include professional skateboarder Tony Hawk, actor Vin Diesel, musician Skrillex, Rapper Lil Wayne, Actor Vince Vaughn, Tom Kenny, the voice behind SpongeBob Squarepants, country singer Taylor Swift, legendary actor Morgan Freeman, Comedian Bill Cosby, Alfonso Ribeiro aka Carlton from the Fresh Prince, and Bill Nye the Science Guy. All of these celebrities are just fine.
