In a series of leaked emails David Beckham sent to his friend and publicist Simon Oliveira, it was revealed how he detested the Honours Committee for refusing to grant him the privilege of becoming a "Sir" in 2013. The Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) was instead granted to Katherine Jenkins, a Welsh opera singer.
Beckham allegedly stated, "Katherine Jenkins OBE for what? Singing at the rugby and going to see troops plus taking coke. F***cking joke." Moreover, in another message, he apparently referred to the honors committee as "a bunch of c***s." "I expected nothing less. Who decides on the honors [sic]?? It's a disgrace to be honest and if I was American I would have got something like this 10 years ago," he continued, as posted on The Telegraph.
In response to Beckham's remarks, Jenkins' reps issued a fact sheet, clarifying its nature and difference from a statement. The fact sheet provided an explanation as to how the singer was given the recognition in 2014.
"We are not issuing a statement - just providing a fact sheet as to why Katherine Jenkins received an OBE in the 2014 New Year's Honours List for services to music and charity in response to Beckham," explained one of Jenkins' reps.
The fact sheet included the notable singer's accomplishments prior to having been awarded with an OBE. She has reportedly visited Afghanistan (2007, 2013), Cyprus (2007, 2009), Iraq (2005, 2006) and Kosovo (2009).
Meanwhile, the reps further noted that Jenkins has previously admitted to taking "coke" in her 20s, which was over a decade prior to her singing career and OBE recognition.
Furthermore, hackers have reportedly threatened to release more emails should Beckham's advisers fail to give a generous donation amounting to almost a million euros on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
Beckham's spokesperson has already issued a statement regarding the damning issue, explaining that the messages were taken out of context, stressing that "this story . . . gives a deliberately inaccurate picture."
