Early Saturday morning, At Miami International Airport, a bus hit an overpass killing at minimum two people and injuring more than a dozen. The bus had reportedly gotten lost and mistakenly ended up at the airport.
NBC News reported that the bus was run by a Jehovah's Witness group that were going to a church convention in West Palm Beach.
NBC News reported that one person died on the scene at the airport and another passed away at the hospital while three other passengers on board were in critical condition.
Airport spokesman Greg Chin said to NBC News that the bus hit the overpass when it was going to the airports arrival area and was only going about 20 mph when the top hit the roof entrance. At the time 32 people were on board the bus and all of them have suffered injuries, though many of them minor.
Police and fire trucks blocked off the area on Saturday morning assessing the situation and helping passengers. The bus is one that is typically used for tours. NBC News reported that Ramon Ferreiro, 47, was driving the bus and that he was not familiar with that area and got lost ending up at the airport.
NBC News reported that buses are supposed to go through the departure area and not the arrival section because the arrivals section has a taller height for buses. NBC News reported that the bus was about nine feet tall but the overpass they went under and hit was eight feet six inches.
