"Rats of NIMH" is a live/CGI version of the well-loved "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH." It is a children's literature that tells about the study of animals in a laboratory. It has been a year since the project is looking for a director to work on the filming of the live adaptation.
The latest news says that finally a very qualified director was found. This is going to be his first directorial job according to The Geekiary. Being a visual specialist for 16 years, he is to be credited for his works in "Rome," "The Da Vinci Code," and "Iron Man 2."
According to Movie Web, James Madigan's other projects include "Crimson Tide" and the amazing "Waterworld." He was a digital compositor for "Earth 2" which was done in 1994.
MGM has acquired the rights for "Rats of NIMH" but the film was stalled for lack of an able director to helm the project. But now the film will start rolling.
It is about a "mouse in distress" that came in contact with a team of rats that were transformed into super intelligent species. They were able to escape from the laboratory and lived with humans and they were beneficial to their existence. They were able to help a rodent family.
The story was inspired by Robert C. O'Brien's "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats o NIMH." It has received the Newberry Medal award when it was published in 1971. The first film made from the book was "The Secret of NIMH" that Don Bluth produced and directed was released in 1982. A sequel titled "The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue" was released in 1998.
The cast includes Shannen Doherty, Dom DeLuise, Derek Jacobi, Wil Wheaton, Elizabeth Hartman, Tom Hatten, John Carradine, Jodi Hicks, and Arthur Malet. The script was written by Ice Age writer Michael Berg. Ehren Kruger and Daniel Bobker produced the movie through their Bobker/Kruger Production Company.
Ehren Kruger was known for his Transformers works - "Transformers: Age of Extinction", "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," and "Transformers: Dark of the Moon." "Rats of NIMH" production start was not yet announced and the release date will be announced later.
