Last month Ben Affleck revealed that it wasn't easy being Batman mostly because of the suit. He also explained how difficult it was to work as both an actor and director while wearing the Batman costume. Now he can scratch the role of "director" off of his list as the actor has decided that he will no longer be directing the upcoming "Batman" film.
According to Variety, Affleck will still be portraying the role of the iconic superhero, but the decision to step down as director was a mutual one between him and Warner Bros. Affleck released a statement saying how certain characters hold a special place in the hearts of millions of fans.
"Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director", Affleck said in his statement.
The actor says he is still committed to the project and is looking forward to bringing it to life for fans all over the world. Sources close to Variety say that Affleck's decision to step down as director had nothing to do with the disappointment of his most recent directing job "Live by Night", but instead had more to do with deciding what was best for the project.
Ben Affleck and Warner Bros. are currently searching for a new director, and Matt Reeves (War of the Planet of the Apes) is said to be on top of the shortlist. Affleck has already completed filming for "Justice League" which is set to premiere on November 17, and he is currently preparing to film his solo "Batman" flick. Per Comicbook.com, Affleck recently made some comments explaining how reluctant he was to direct a film where he is also one of the stars.
