New Dating Website, MeetAtTheAirport.com, Connects Travelers at the Airport

Looking for a little love at the airport? Waiting for a flight can get a bit boring, so you might want to consider spicing up your wait by meeting a new person. A new dating website is allowing passengers to connect before they fly.

Meetattheairport.com allows people to connect before their flights. The site, which launched in May 2011, was created by Steve Pasternack who got the idea when he was stranded at Miami Airport due to a delay.

"I noticed a lot of people at the bar looking for something to do and I thought it'd be great if I could get them to meet each other," Pasternack told CNN.

Users enter their interests and their flight and departure details. The site then matches users with other people who have similar interests and travel arrangements.

A message on the website says "'Frequent flyers can make new friends with passengers that travel out of the same airport as they do on a regular basis. And a delayed departure time or changed flight schedule no longer means having to kill time by reading a magazine or staring blankly in front of yourself.'

Pasternack says the site already has 20,000 users. Many of them are from the United States, Mexico and Germany, but there are users in other parts of the world as well.

"What better time to meet somebody new than when you're sitting in an airport?" Pasternack asked. "This person could be a travel companion [or] they could be from the place you're going. It could turn into a friendship, a romance. It could work out for business, many things."

Most of the users are listed as single but some admit to being married. Interest ranges from "open to possibilites" to "looking for something serious."

Pasternack isn't the only one with the goal of conneting people are the airport. Vantaa Airport in Helsinki, Finland is toying with the idea of creating an airport speed-dating service.

For those who are short on time, waiting at the gate can be a convenient opportunity for people to connect and spark a possible new relationship. It may also be an easy way to get closer to becoming a member of the Mile High Club.
