Virgin America's "Cyber Monday" deals offered the chance to charter an entire plane for $49,000. USA Today reported that the details explained that for $49,000 people who attended the January International Computer Electronics Show in Las Vegas could charter the Virgin Airbus A320 to San Francisco. The airline partnered with the popular Gilt City for the deal.
Spokeswoman Abby Lunardini said that the deal was sold in minutes and there were more than 180 offers submitted.
Other perks include everyone on board getting elite frequent flier status for one year and to have their logo along Virgin's on the plane. Lunardini added to USA Today, "It was not a huge surprise for us that there was so much interest, as we often get requests from local Silicon Valley companies and entrepreneurs who want to charter one of our Wi-Fi-enabled planes to CES"
Luanne Calvert, Virgin America's vice president of marketing said in a press release, "We get inquiries every year from local tech companies and entrepreneurs asking to charter our aircraft to head to CES, so we thought it would be fun to answer the call and work with Gilt City to create the ultimate geek gift."
The price included the following amenities:
- "Roundtrip flight for 136 guests from San Francisco to Las Vegas for 2013 CES - the world's largest consumer electronics show - on a Virgin America Airbus A320 christened #nerdbird
- Flight departs from San Francisco on Jan. 7, 2013 and returns Jan. 9, 2013
- Free Gogo in-flight WiFi
- Elevate Gold Status for purchaser and guest (for 2013)
- Elevate Silver Status for all other guests (for 2013)
- 136 passes to 2013 CES from Jan. 7 to Jan. 9, including the Jan.7 Preshow Keynote and Jan. 8 Keynote Addresses
- The plane will be decorated with a unique decal of your design for one month"
