During a funeral of a gang member, a man was killed and another remains in the hospital in critical condition after a shooting. 21-year-old Sherman Miller was killed during the funeral inside St. Columbanus Church in Chicago and Deonte Ousley, 26, is in critical condition and rushed to surgery, reported NBC News.
Police said to NBC News that the two men are "convicted felons and had a gang affiliation."
One man was killed and a second man was in critical condition after a shooting Monday at the funeral of a known gang member.
The funeral was for James Holman who was killed a week ago. According to NBC News, Pastor Corey Brooks tweeted about the gunfire after preaching at the funeral and said, "Please pray I believe people have been hit it is Chaos about 500 people here. This is Crazy!! Two people shot and it appears that one is dead and one critical," he tweeted. "Please pray for Chicago. This is Horrible!!
Deborah Echols-Moore, 59, who was at the funeral said to the Chicago Tribune, "When I came outside, you still can hear shooting. Boom! Boom! Boom! I still ran...people was running behind me. You didn't know which way to go or what to do. All I knew to do was run for my life."
According to the Chicago Tribune, this year about 60 percent of Chicago's homicide victims were gang members. The Chicago Tribune reported that police identified both of the victimes as Ganster Disciple Members, a gang that is known in the area.
Investigators also said that a conflict between Gansgster Disciple members and Black Disciple Members has been ongoing in the neighborhood.
