A young woman decided to take a terrifying photo from her trip to the Grand Canyon as a prank towards her mother. The photo, in which Samantha Busch appears to be falling off the famous natural attraction, has gone viral after she posted it to Reddit.
Last week, Busch, 22, posted the photo to Reddit with the caption "mom was worried about my trip to the Grand Canyon, I sent her this picture." The prank photo shows Busch appearing to hold on for dear life as she "falls" off the Grand Canyon.
The photo has been viewed by thousands and has over 3,000 comments on Reddit. Curious about the story behind the photo, ABC 7 interviewed Busch and asked why she decided to pull the terrifying prank on her mother.
"For five days up to when we left my mom had warned me about falling off the cliff or being blown off," Busch told ABC. "So when we were hiking around the corner I found a spot where I could stand on the ledge. He angled the camera just right and he took a great picture."Busch said she wasn't in danger despite standing on a foot wide ledge.
She also sent the photo to her mother's coworkers who "were all freaking out over it saying I gave them a heart attack," Busch said.
Some Reddit users shared Busch's mother's fears.
"My sister-in-law went to the Grand Canyon and when she saw that there were no guardrails became so worried and nervous for everyone (EVERYONE) visiting that she had to leave," one commentor wrote."Grand Canyon can actually be a seriously dangerous place,"another user said.
They aren't kidding. In May, a marine was killed when he fell from the Grand Canyon. Approximately 600 deaths have occurred there since the 1870s, 78 of which were the result of falls or freak accidents.
