US Immigration Ban’s Impact On Travel: Five Things You Need To Know

The United States of America is commonly known as a country of diversity, but these days not so much. Because of President Donald Trump's recent executive order to ban immigrants from Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen-- which are predominantly Muslim countries, and banning the entry of Syrian refugees in the States indefinitely, chaos in the US have never been greater.

Nationwide protests are now invading America's streets and airports, with many calling the executive order "un-American and unethical." According to Trump, this is an initial step to combat terrorism, because the ISIS and other extreme Muslim terrorist groups mostly come from the said countries.

The first and foremost thing you need to know about this ban is that even though you're a green card holder from one of these countries, you will not be spared from the ban. There are several reports nationwide about some citizens being blocked and detained at the airports even if they're green card holders.

Because of this, Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Corker has spoken up about the revising of the executive order. "We all share a desire to protect the American people, but this executive order has been poorly implemented, especially with respect to green card holders," he said. "The administration should immediately make appropriate revisions, and it is my hope that following a thorough review and implementation of security enhancements that many of these programs will be improved and reinstated."

In relations to tourism, even though no Muslim majority country is included in the US' top inbound markets, the negative effects of this ban would send ripples all over the world. More and more countries have spoken up about the sudden hostility America is now enforcing, which in the future, may discourage potential travelers from going in the country.

Companies and corporations with workers and relations to these countries will also be heavily affected. And if things turn to worse, international travelers on business to the US would slowly dwindle, creating a negative impact on the economy.

Although Trump made this order to protect the America from incoming threats, it has met negative reactions among most of the people. Students, workers, tourists, refugees and professionals-no one is exempted.

According to a White House official, "All stopped visas will remain stopped. All halted admissions will remain halted. All restricted travel will remain prohibited. The executive order is a vital action toward strengthening America's borders, and therefore sovereignty. The order remains in place."
