A few weeks Tesla and Space X founder, Elon Musk, took to Twitter and informed his followers that he had plans on building an escape tunnel to help remedy the traffic problem in Los Angeles. Many people thought nothing of it, but it looks like Musk is serious about this project, and if things go well it could become a reality sooner than later.
Musk stated a couple of days ago that he was planning to begin construction on the tunnel soon, and a new report from the Washington Post has just confirmed a new aspect of the Space X founder's latest experiment. The newspaper reports that Musk is planning on purchasing a "large earth drilling machine" to help in the construction of the tunnel that is connected to one of his properties in California.
Last week, Musk responded to the query of a curious Twitter user who asked about the tunnel. According to Musk, the tunnel will start from his office desk at Space X, and then pass through Crenshaw and 105 Freeway, which is approximately 5 minutes away from LAX.
While Musk previously mentioned that he plans on digging the tunnel within a month or so, the report from the Washington Post indicates that construction on the tunnel has already started. The initial construction site of the tunnel is located at the Space X facility in Hawthorne, California. It is not yet clear whether the tunnel will be exclusive for Musk himself or if other Space X staff members will be given access to it.
However, based on Musk's tweets, it sounds like the tunnel will be exclusive to the Space X boss himself. The eccentric billionaire has yet to comment on whether or not the city of Los Angeles has granted him permission to construct his tunnel - a project which will most likely cost him more than a few bucks.
