"Scandal" Season 6 premiere was postponed for a week and previous reports say that this is to give way to President Donald Trump's inauguration, but "Survival of the Fittest" actually just answered why there has to be a delay. Imagine killing the US President on Inauguration Day, which would have been more shocking than the episode already is, and it would have caused a lot of controversy.
But that's exactly what happened during the season premiere. Gov. Frankie Vargas' presidential win got an explosive start - literally. Yahoo! TV News said that Vargas pulled out a narrow victory over Mellie Grant, but his victory did not last long. He was gunned down during his victory speech.
Vargas' win, though, has uncanny similarity to the recent presidential election between Trump and Clinton, The Hollywood Reporter said. But, "Scandal" producers and stars say that the season was largely written well before the November election.
Meanwhile, Olivia (Kerry Washington) went on to tell papa Pope to blame him, but instead, he gave her the idea that it was Cyrus who did it. Olivia was determined to prove that it was Vice President-elect Cyrus Beene who was behind the killing, but they can't find any evidence. Nevertheless, Olivia still went to the hospital to confront Cyrus who was in shock.
President Grant waited to endorse either Cyrus or Mellie to be his successor, but Olivia assured him that Cyrus did not do it. Grant then told Cyrus "I am handing you the most beautiful thing in the world. I am handing you America. Take care of it." The show ended with Olivia whispering into Cyrus' ear, "I know you killed him, and I'm going to prove it."
Other theories include Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) is the one responsible for the death, and Charlie (George Newbern) helped him. Fans would have to see keep watching to know. "Scandal" airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
