‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Characters Chirrut Imwe And Baze Malbus Backstory Will Be Explored In A Book

Fans of both "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" characters, Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus, will be able to learn more about their two heroes in an upcoming prequel novel. The book will be entitled "Star Wars: Guardians of the Whills."

According to a report from Making Star Wars, the prequel novel will be written by Eisner-winner and New York Times Bestselling author Greg Rucka. The story will focus on Imwe and Malbus, just after the Empire had ransacked the Kyber Temple on Jedha.

The report was able to share a copy of the synopsis and it mentioned Imwe and Malbus doing whatever they can to "resist the Empire and protect the people of Jedha." The synopsis also mentioned that the two guardians had met with Saw Gerrera and listened to his plans to take down the Empire, but it will seemingly come with a great cost.

The report adds that it's fitting the story of the novel would revolve around the two guardians and their interaction with Gerrera and his team. Telling their story and interactions would add impact and meaning to the "Rogue One' scenes in Jedha.

Matthew Erao of Screen Rant said that the book will not only connect Imwe and Malbus to the Jedi and the Force in general but to "Star Wars: A New Hope" and the other films as well. He said that the opening crawls of used in the other films are all based on journals that the Whills have written.

Erao adds that the Guardians of the Whills are a religion that was built around the Jedi. So he said that the backstory of the two guardians would essentially more light to the lore regarding the Force.

Making Star Wars said that fans can already pre-order the "Star Wars: Guardians of the Whills" on Amazon. Check out the interview with Donnie Yen, who played Imwe in "Rogue One," in the video below.
