World's Tallest Hotel, JW Marriott Marquis, Opens in Dubai

The world's tallest hotel has opened in Dubai, but it isn't quite finished yet. The JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in Dubai has opened its doors, providing tourists withs 804 rooms to check into. However, only the first tower of the world's tallest hotel has opened, marking the first of several phases of the opening of the hotel.

The JW Marriott Marquis is 355 metres, (1164 feet) tall, which is just 26 metres (85 feet) shorther than the Empire State Building in New York. Its height makes it the world's tallest hotel and it is Dubai's first world-class convention and business destination hotel.

The 82-story hotel is opening in several phases. The opening of the first tower is just the first part. Along with the 804 rooms, three of the hotel restaurants are now open.

By January, it is expected that all nine of the hotel's restaurants, along with five bars and lounges will be open. The other tower, with another 804 rooms is also expected to be open in time for a grand opening in February.

"The JW Marriott Marquis Hotel, Dubai is an outstanding addition to the JW Marriott portfolio and we are eager to introduce it to the international business community," General Manager Rupprecht Queitsch told Meetings Focus.

Queitsch personally greeted the first guests at the hotel. They included Tommaso Bendoni of GlobeSoccer, which will hold an annual event at the hotel in December, and Fadi Deek, director for Boeing IT Middle East and Africa.

"The JW Marriott Marquis will add significantly to Dubai in its drive to become the preferred choice for meetings, incentives, conference and events business. We are working in tandem with the Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing and Dubai Convention Bureau to put Dubai on the global business destination map," Queitsch said.

The largest hotel in the world is just one of many impressive features in Dubai. The emirate in he United Arab Emirates has become a popular tourist destination. The city is already home to the current tallest building in the world and the largest shopping mall.
