'GTA Online' News: Updates For 2017 To Slowdown After First Release Of The Year

The update plans of Rockstar for "GTA Online" this year have been revealed. Fans also received news regarding map expansions. Progress on new maps were reported. Following that news, more information was released that allows fans to be aware of what the developer can deliver this year.

The new information follows the release of the first update of the year for the game. According to gaming website GameSpot, the new content in the update includes a new adversary mode, Collection Time. It also includes a new vehicle, Dewbauchee Spectre.

For the rest of the updates this year, production of "Grand Theft Auto Online" content will be slowing down. The slowdown affects all platforms the game has been released on, which are the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game will still be updated, as shown by the first update released this year, but not as much as before, as indicated by a recent report.

The newspaper Daily Express reported that an update on the status at Rockstar was provided by Yan2295, a usually trustworthy source for "GTA Online". His report may disappoint fans as it shows what is coming. The Import/Export update released late last year was intended to be the game's final content to be added. The popularity of "GTA Online" however, forced a change in plans.

The shift in priorities are evident in the released updates. The content is no longer as extensive as before nor are there any new multiplayer gameplay mechanics.

Yan reported that the developers were lacking in manpower resources. The division of the "Red Dead Redemption" developer handling the game, Rockstar North, had its resources split, focusing on four separate projects.

Some resources were allocated to begin development on the next GTA game. Some were deployed to another game. Others were devoted to helping Rockstar San Diego with "Red Dead Redemption 2".

What was left would be for continuing development on "GTA Online". With the reduction to only a quarter of its former manpower, it is not realistic to expect them to release content as large as they had produced in the past.

Yan issued a word caution in believing the information he reported since all were based on information he heard that has not been confirmed. In the case of "Red Dead Redemption 2" though, it is believable since that game is indeed a huge undertaking. The western shooter game will seek to duplicate the online success of "GTA Online".
