Carnival Cruise Line is giving one of its ships a huge makeover. In a $155 million makeover project of the Carnival Destiny, Carnival will roll out the new Carnival Sunshine in April 2013 with a whole water park on board to entertain passengers.
The Carnival Destiny is being transformed into the Carnival Sunshine while docked in Italy for 49 days. The revamped ship will have a new bar, a full-service Asian restaurant and even a whole water park with the cruise line's longest water slide.
WaterWorks, the new on board water park will entertain guests of all ages. It will contain five different slides and will have 40 different interactive features. One of these features is a 300-gallon drenching bucket that will be a highlight of the SplashZone kids' water play area.
The water park will have a racing-themed slide. The Speedway Splash will have dual side-by-side 235-foot-long slides which will let guests race each other. Riders will be shown their race time on a scoreboard, so they know who won when they reach the bottom.
Another feature is the enclosed 334-foot-long Twister slide, which is the longest of any Carnival waterslide. It features a transparent turn over the edge of the ship, which offers amazing views to riders.Other additions to the ship include the tropical-themed Havana Bar, a full-service Asian restaurant, a milkshake bar called the Shake Spot, the JavaBlue Cafe, and the 24-hour Pizzeria del Capitano.
To celebrate the ship's makeover, Carnival is hosting a contest called "Bring Home Some Sunshine and Win." Contestants have to pick a spot in their home or office and transform it into something more fun, just like the Carnival Sunshine.
People can enter their before and after photos to www.facebook.com/carnival and Carnival will select five finalists based on the quality of their entries. Fans will then vote to select the grand-prize winner. The winner will get a free trip on the Carnival Sunshine.
Some of the trips that Carnival Sunshine will make include a 14-day voyage from Venice to Barcelona April 12-26, 2013, followed by nine- and 12-day Mediterranean cruises either round-trip from Barcelona or sailing between Barcelona and Venice through October 20, 2013. Carnival Sunshine will then sail on a 16-day trans-Atlantic crossing from Barcelona to New Orleans Nov. 1-17, 2013, and will then make seven day trips to the Caribbean.
