Walmart Black Friday 2012: Retailer Announces Early Thanksgiving Day Start & Reveals Deals

Black Friday at Walmart will start even earlier this year. In fact, it doesn't even start on Friday. Walmart's Black Friday sale will begin early on Thanksgiving night and the supercenter has already revealed hot deals and specials for the busy shopping day.

Black Friday 2012 will start extra early at Walmart this year. The retailer will open its doors at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving day, meaning employees and eager shoppers will have to cut their Thanksgiving meal short.

Those who arrive for the early opening can take advantage of some of the best deals. Shoppers who are in the stores between 10p.m. and 11p.m. will have guaranteed access to special "wishlist" items which includes a 16GB Apple iPad 2 with a $75 Walmart gift card for $399, a 32-inch Emerson LCD TV for $148 and an LG Blu-ray player for $38.

Walmart will have many deals on various electronics during the holiday season. The holiday season alone makes up for a quarter of the retailer's annual revenue.

"We bought deep, very deep, and we bought deep on items that matter to our customers," Walmart U.S. Chief Merchandising and Marketing Officer Duncan Mac Naughton told Reuters.

In addition to electronics, Walmart will also have deals on many video games, toys, appliances, home goods, clothing, jewelry, hunting goods and more.

While employees may miss out on an enjoyable holiday and shoppers will have to leave home early to start waiting on line for the 8p.m. frenzy to start, Mac Naughton says it is a good idea for business to start early.

"Economically it makes sense," said Brian Sozzi, chief equities analyst at NBG Productions. "You're getting people into the store to buy your products earlier. If I look at what Walmart's doing here, they have led."

Last year, Walmart began its Black Friday sale at 10p.m. on Thanksgiving day.

They aren't the only store to get an early jump-start on Black Friday. Sears will have a big early start compared to last year. Sears will also starts its Black Friday sale at 8p.m. on Thanksgiving day as opposed to its 4a.m. Black Friday start last year.

K-Mart will also be open from 8p.m, to 3 a.m. on Thanksgiving day. However the store will also be open during the day from 6a.m. to 4p.m. before the start of its Black Friday sale.
