China has opened a park in Tibet's Autonomous Region last month and is calling it "the world's highest national park" China Daily reported.
The newly minted park, Qomolangma is 78,000 square kilometers and is in southern Tibet Autonomous region near the border of Nepal in China. Qoomolangma literally means Mt. Everest in the Tibetan language.
CNN GO reported that Qomolangma National Park has five huge mountains include the 8,848-meter mount Everest and Mount Cho Oyo which is 8,201 meters.
"The opening of the Qomolangma Park, which is reported to be the national park at the highest altitude, comes after the the launch of Namtso National Park and Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon National Park in Tibet. While Namtso Park was opened just last week, Yarlung Park, which is named after a river that flows through the world´s highest place, was established in 2010," reports My Republica.
"The sky-high attraction also contains 10 mountains rising between 7,000-8,000 meters, as well as glaciers, hot springs and alpine forests," reported CNN Go.
Admission cost RMB 180 per person, RMB 400 for a small car and RMB 600 for a large car. Sun Yongping who is deputy chief of the Tibetan Tourism Bureau said to China Daily, "The national park will be focused on the protection of the ecology and biodiversity and prevention from illegal resource exploitation or land use."
The park is Tibet's third national park which also includes Namtso National Park and Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon National Park.
To enter Tibet travelers travelers have to have a Tibet Alien Travel/PSB permit as well as a China visa to enter the area.
