The United States has chosen President Barack Obama as the winner of the 2012 presidential election, but a new survey shows that many people would rather have President Obama over Mitt Romney as a travel companion as well.
In a survey by travel discount site, Hotwire.com, most Americans would prefer the president as a travel partner as opposed to Mitt Romney. The second annual Hotwire American Travel Behavior Survey, which was conducted by Harris Interactive, included 2,000 U.S. adults.
Most respondents, of 60 percent, would choose President Obama as their travel buddy, while 40 percent would choose Romney.
"This was a close election, and now that the ballots are in, it's clear that Americans also have very distinct ideas about who would make a better travel friend," said Clem Bason, president of the Hotwire Group.
In addition to being asked who they would want to vacation with, respondents were also asked when they would want to vacation with each candidate.
Of the 60 percent of people who chose President Obama, 41 percent said they would want to spend Thanksgiving vacation with him. Nineteen percent would want to ring in the New Year with Obama, 13 percent would spend Christmas with him, eight percent would have spent Halloween with him and 18 percent would pick another holiday to hang out with the president.
Of the 40 percent who would want to vacation with Romney, 38 percent would spend Thanksgiving with him. Another 15 percent would spend New Year's with Romney, 13 percent chose Christmas, eight percent picked Halloween, and 26 percent would choose another holiday to spend with the former governor.
Hotwire also recommended certain presidential destinations that travelers might want to go to. They compiled a list of the top five holiday destinations for past and present presidents and many of them are favorites of the Obama's.
The destinations include Honolulu, HI, Martha's Vineyard, MA, Santa Barbara, CA, Jackson Hole, WY, and of course, Washington D.C.
"Regardless of companion preferences between candidates, at Hotwire one thing is certain: travelers don't have to pay presidential prices to visit favorite First Family destinations like Martha's Vineyard, Santa Barbara and Hawaii,"
In the actual election, President Obama claimed victory as he had 303 electoral votes, while Romney had 206 electoral votes. Obama also won the popular vote with 60787432 votes, while Romney had 57891780 votes. These numbers will change as the votes are still being counted in Florida.
