It is the season of remakes and revivals. "Twin Peaks," "Will & Grace," "Call the Midwife" are old shows that got a breath of new life. This time, it is "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" remake. It will star Rebel Wilson ("Pitch Perfect") and Anna Hathaway ("Song One").
According to Comic Book, the remake will not be titled like the 1988 Steve Martin, Michael Caine comedy classic. It will be titled "Nasty Women" to ride Donald Trump's comment on Hillary Clinton as "nasty woman."
Hathaway and Wilson will play two women of varied background who team up and plan a scheme to get the money of a tech genius. So far that is the only detail about the plot plus the fact that it was a remake of the 1988 hit comedy series.
Jac Schaeffer has written the script and produced by Roger Birnbaum's Pin High Production and Wilson's Camp Camps production according to Hollywood Reporter. The original movie was written by Dale Launer, Stanley Shapiro, and Paul Henning.
It was about Martin's character, Freddy Benson who makes a living out of fooling women for their money. He would tell them stories about his sad fate to awaken their compassion and extort money from them. He met Caine's Lawrence Jamieson who has the same passion but targets rich ladies. Jamieson wants Benson to teach him high-society behavior so that he can level-up his occupation.
To resolve who will operate in their small town, they have to compete to a race: the first one to extract $50,000 from a young woman wins and the other leaves the town. Anne Hathaway is currently making "The Intern" and "Alice Through the Looking Glass." She is also cast in "Ocean's Eleven" spin-off for "Ocean's Eight" and "Colossal," where is plays the woman with a psychic connection to an enormous lizard.
