PlayStation VR Could Be In Some Serious Trouble If The Company Keeps Being Mum About It

Sony's PlayStation VR and its promotional team have finally managed to roll out the product in stores. However, the seven years worth of dedication, work and investment may go to waste as there isn't any real potential game worthy of taking advantage of the VR headset's capabilities, which also spells problem sooner or later.

A recent post from Extreme Tech covered Sony's apparent silence with the PlayStation VR after eventually releasing it. There are a number of games already supported and the upcoming "Resident Evil 7" is possibly one of the most anticipated titles that will utilize the VR headset. However, besides that, it appears like the PlayStation VR isn't donning anything head-turning yet.

Without having to tackle the technical mumbo-jumbo in terms of sales, PSVR's sales aren't performing all that great and meeting the company's expectations that even Independent tracking firm SuperData Research reduced the estimate sales of Sony's VR Headset from more than 2 million down to 750,000. A number of reasons contribute to these such as the price of the add-on as well as the prior release of the PlayStation 4 Pro, which appeared to be obviously a better investment for most.

Even though the PSVR received good reviews after its recent launch, an honest take on its future wouldn't simply rely on the currently available titles at the moment. It is also greatly limited due to the fact that it is dedicated for a single platform.

As Pushsquare reported, expectations for a PSVR exposure was high before the PlayStation Experience 2016, but it wasn't really that much of a fraction of attention way back then. PSX 2016 was a great event with tons of exclusives coming for the console, but none of it put the much needed highlight to the PSVR.

PSVR also has another problem and this is with regards to its scarce availability. Nobody's certain whether Sony is intentionally holding off the product to save some in order to make the most out of any promotion. Either way, not being able to sell enough PSVRs and not giving it some exposure is doing it no good.

It may still be too early to estimate whether the PlayStation VR will be a bad whack, but if Sony will keep being too quiet about what they have in store for the consumers, it may share the same fate with the PlayStation VITA. Otherwise, the company might be pulling off a stunt it will regret later on.
