Hong Kong could get its own observation wheel next year. CNN Go reported that a large observation wheel on Central piers 9 and 10 in Hong Kong.
The wheel would be approximately 9,620 square meters, reports CNN GO and would be on prime real estate on the waterfront.
"The government Lands Department has posted a tender notice for short-term tenancy of the plot in front of Central piers 9 and 10 on Hong Kong Island," reported CNN Go.
CNN GO reported that the Tender notice states that the Hong Kong Eye should be 50 meters in diameter or more and the tenderer should have at least 10 years of experience. The submission closing date is Dec. 14 at noon.
The construction should take 12 months or more. CNN GO reported that the eye was proposed back in August 2011 to the Harborfront Commission by the same people behind the Singapore flyer, Great City Attractions Global.
"The British-based companies proposed the R60 model of observation wheel that is 60-meters-tall, covered in white LED lights. It can hold a maximum of 10,000 people a day and each ride would last 10 to 15 minutes, costing HK$100 (US$13) per person," reported CNN Go.
CNN GO reported that Freij Entertainment International Limited had also proposed an 80 meter tall wheel before the notice came out and was hoping to set that wheel up at the Kai Tak development.
The development of the wheel came with mixed results CNN GO reported from residents. Observation wheels are popular developments in a number of cities including London's London Eye and Singapore's Flyer.
