Con Edison has reported that power could be back on in Manhattan for those that lost it due to Hurricane Sandy by 11 p.m. Saturday Nov. 3. The New York Daily News reported that a few small areas of Manhattan have power on Friday.
Governor Andrew Cuomo said that some power would be back on Friday at a press conference, according to The New York Daily News.
Cuomo said according to the New York Daily News that power could also mean that subway lines could now start running to downtown areas.
Con Ed has said that not all power could come back the same time that others do and noted that the water could have damaged electrical systems, reported The New York Daily News.
"Stores on Broadway near City Hall were among the lucky ones, and computers sparked back to life in the press room in City Hall. Grateful customers began lining up at a Dunkin Donuts and a McDonalds near Fulton Street, picking up steaming cups of fresh, hot coffee - the first doled out in the area in days," reported The New York Daily News.
Manhattanites will be overjoyed to have power restored, which they lost on Monday, but other burroughs of New York City could have to wait up to a week to get power back up and running.
The New York Daily News reported that 400,000 customers in Staten Island, The Bronx, Westchester County, Brooklyn and Queens are all currently waiting for the power to be restored in their homes and might not see power for another week.
Some areas whose overhead power lines were damaged could have to wait even longer, until Nov. 10 or 11 reported Con Ed on Thursday.
The New York Daily News reported that more than 900,000 people lost power due to Sandy.
