Hurricane Sandy, the 18th storm of the 2012 hurricane season, is making its way up the east coast. The storm hasn't made landfall yet, but it is already causing damage and flooding. People in Sandy's path are taking to Twitter to share pictures of Hurricane Sandy's destruction.
Hurricane Sandy is a powerful Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph. As of 2:00p.m ET, the storm was centered about 175 miles south-southeast of New York City and 110 miles southeast of Atlantic City.
People can already feel the strong winds of Sandy as its hurricane-force winds extend up to 175 miles from its center and tropical storm-force winds extend even further, up to 485 miles.
A major concern for residents is the huge storm surge, which is expected to cause heavy flooding. Those living in low-lying areas near the water were ordered to evacuate, but not everyone listened. Many decided to ride the storm out and they're documenting it on social media.
Many residents of New York and New Jersey took photos showing early flooding, damage and preparation for the storm.
