The iPad mini release date has been revealed and the new Apple tablet is already sold out.
The iPad mini was revealed at an Apple conference on October 23. Tim Cook showed off the new, smaller 7.9-inch tablet and announced that it will be available in stores on November 2. Online pre-order for tablets started early Friday morning. The initial stock of the white and silver version sold out just within an hour
Customers who want the black version can still have it delivered on time as they are not yet sold out.
The iPad mini starts at $329 for the WiFi-only model with 16GB of storage. The 32GB version costs $429 and the 64GB iPad mini is $529.The tablet is also available in a cellular version. These editions connect to 3G and 4G networks on Verizon, AT&T or Sprint and cost $459, $559 and $659. These versions will ship in mid-November.
The smaller tablet boasts a larger screen than its competitor's and comes with a five megapixel front and back camera. It runs on Apple's new iOS 6 software and even comes with Siri, like on the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.
The iPad mini is presenting a challenge to competitors who also released tiny tablets. Amazon's Kindle Fire HD, Google's Nexus 7 and Microsoft's new Surface tablet are all low priced and have a lot to offer, but it doesn't seem like this will be an issue for true Apple product fans.
With the holiday season approaching, the iPad mini is sure to be a hit as it is already proving with its immediate pre-order sell out.More of the iPad minis will be available. Those who want the white one just might have to wait a little while longer.
In addition to the iPad mini, Apple also debuted the new 13-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina display.
