Ed Sheeran New Music Made History By Taking Top Two Chart Positions

Ed Sheeran's new music which he promised at the start of the New Year has already taken the top one and two positions in the UK singles chart. The "Thinking Out Loud" singer announced via his Instagram account that he is set to drop a new song on the first week of January.

True enough he dropped two new singles and amazingly they occupied the first and second spots on the charts. "Shape of You" landed on the top and "Castle on the Hill" took the second spot.

The Official Charts Company tells that historically, this is the first time that happened to a singer as per BBC. Considering that both songs are brand new songs, it is indeed remarkable. Ed Sheeran said that he is very pleased with the success of the songs. He is just amazed watching the songs climb the charts despite the length of time they were released.

The announcement of the coming of the songs also marked Sheeran's social media comeback according to Independent. It can be recalled that the "Photograph" singer took a break from the platform to focus on his life and his music. But before he left, he promised that he will work on a new album "÷" (Divide). His first two albums are named "+" and "x."

There seems to be a huge vacuum created with the British's singer's hiatus and the hunger for new songs from him resulted in a streaming record in just one week. The top song is a bouncy, fast-tempo pop achieved 13.4 million streams surpassing Drake's record made last year. J.Lo's rumored boyfriend's "One Dance" was streamed 8.9 million in one week. "Castle on the Hill" also went past Drake's record with11.07 million streams.

The 25-year-old has broken a global streaming record that was accorded to One Direction. The band's "Drag Me Down" made 4.76 streams in Spotify in a day last 2015.

Meanwhile, for the top 5 albums, Little Mix's "Glory Days" topped then followed by Pete Tong's Classic House on the second. You Me At Six's "Night People" landed on top 3 while George Michael's "Ladies and Gentlemen" and David Bowie's "Legacy" took the fourth and fifth places.

Ed Sheeran new music is set to double the streaming numbers as days go by. The unassuming singer-songwriter seems to have found the inspiration in songwriting outside of the celebrity circle.
