Worst Passwords of 2012: 'Password' Tops the List as 'Ninja & 'Jesus' Are Added

If you're trying to break into someone's online account, you might not have a hard time. The list of the worst passwords of 2012 has been revealed by security software developer, SplashData , and it hasn't changed much over the past few years.

Maybe it's a lack of creativity. Maybe it's just pure laziness. Maybe it's a fear of forgetting it and being locked out of an account for all of eternity, even though most accounts come with password reminders. Whatever it is, some people just like to keep their password as simple as, well,-"password." The obvious word has been the top worst password for several years along with 123456 and the more extreme 12345678.

If you're hacking skills aren't up to par, but you're determined to get into someone's account, you might have a good chance trying one of these top 25 worst passwords released by SplashData.

If you don't want your account getting broken into, you may want to consider coming up with something more original than the passwords on this list. The best password is something that contains letters, numbers and characters and is eight characters long or more. It may be harder to remember, but it could protect your privacy.

While the list of the worst passwords is pretty consistent with previous years, there are some odd newcomers such as "jesus," "ninja" and "mustang." Some are even catching on to the letters and numbers trick as "password1" has made the list.
