A church leader that was leading a prayer service on Wednesday morning was shot to death after a man came in and shot him then fled.
The name of the victim has been withheld by police but he was a volunteer staffer at Reverend Creflo Dollar's World Changers Church International, in College Park, Georgia, near Atlanta. reported USA Today.
The Associated Press reported that the victim,39, was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
USA Today reported the suspect as 52-year-old Floyd Palmer who was a former employee of the church. Fulton County police spokeswoman Captain Kay Lester said to the Atlanta Journal Constitution that Palmer, the shooter "walked calmly into the church and left just as calmly."
The Associated Press reported that the shots were made before 10 a.m.at the church which reportedly has 30,000 followers.
Creflo Dollar was not in attendance at the time of the shooting said Fulton County Police Captain Kay Lester, reported The AP.
At the time of the shooting there were 20-25 people at the chapel. No other people were wounded and the suspect fled away in a black Subaru station wagon, reported The AP.
Authorities are currently investigating the crime to determine whether the victim and the Palmer knew each other, reported the AP.
Karen Webb who went to the church with her mother that morning said to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that she was told the victim had been shot six times. She said,
"I brought my mother up here to go to church - every Wednesday she attends Bible study. As soon as we get here I'm told someone has been shot. He was one of the praise leaders."
The AP reported that Creflo Dollar is "one of the most well-known African-American preachers based around Atlanta, with a ministry of satellite churches across the U.S."
CNN reported that Dollar "has built an international religious empire, with broadcasts of his sermons beamed worldwide and speaking engagements in Europe" and has been called "Cash-Flow Dollar" by critics in the past.
