TSA has been on the forefront of the media as of late with a number of reports of theft from passengers. In a recent investigation on ABC New's Nightline, Brian Ross investigated this often times underraps and underreported phenomenon of TSA agents who steal from travelers at airports. The findings show, many of the countries busiest airports are the biggest culprits for thefts by TSA agents.
NBC News reported that the TSA has fired almost 400 employees for stealing from travelers. Just recently, TravelersToday reported that the TSA announced they would likely be firing 25 employees and suspending 19 at Newark Airport for alleged misconduct.
ABC News received new figures in response to a Freedom of Information Act Request that showed many of the countries major airports having the most amount of theft from TSA Agents.
"Sixteen of the top 20 airports for theft firings are also in the top 20 airports in terms of passengers passing through," they reported.
ABC News reported that one TSA agent, Pythias Brown, has admitted to stealing $800,000 worth of merchandise and cash from travelers.
From ABC's research they found that Miami International Airport had the most TSA firings with "29 employees terminated for theft from 2002 through December 2011." ABC News reported that New York's JFK Airport comes in second with 27 firings of TSA Agents and Los Angeles International Airport third with 24.
